Speech

Meet Tessa. Jocelyn's speech teacher. Two times a week we head to speech class. I'm sure many of you are wondering what on earth a little girl who doesn't talk much does at speech class. Really, it's amazing to watch. Jocelyn goes through stacks of flash cards, repeating words like poppy, oh boy, ouch and down. In between each set she gets to pick a toy to play with. Jocelyn works so hard through the 30 minute session. Much if this is due to a FABULOUS speech therapist. She keeps a two year olds attention like you wouldn't believe. Jocelyn studies her mouth as the words come out and then works tirelessly to get the word to come out the same as Tessa.

Speech is difficult for Jocelyn. Expressive speech is the area of her development where she tests the lowest. Her latest assessments show her at about a 22 month level. She is 33 months.

The progress we have seen since beginning speech with Tessa is impressive. She is beginning to put 2 words together. Example: "shoes on", "bye dada". She is quite proud that she says, "mama Elmo please!" It's hard to say no to that!

Celebrating Travis

trav

Sweet Travis would have been 3.  He isn’t here with us but he continues to give.  His Mommy and Daddy amaze me.  To remember their boy they served dinner at the Ronald McDonald house with family and friends.  The Ronald McDonald house provides meals and housing to parents with children in the hospital.  What an amazing night.  There were children's books for the families to take home, teddy bears, cupcakes to decorate, crafts, and a yummy pasta dinner for all.  All for a little boy born with half a heart and gone too soon.

Travis  and Jocelyn were swimming buddies and oh my did they both love the water.  They were itty bitty, but both had huge smiles every moment they were in the water.  I will always remember our swim lessons together. There was a reason that Jocelyn and Travis were in class together.  We continue to be shown these reasons.

Thank you Nicole and Roger for continuing to share your beautiful boy with us.  This was an evening that Chris and I and so many others will always remember.

Beach Camping

IMG_5848

We enjoyed a fun weekend camping with friends.  It was a little different than I imagined but we made the best of it.  The rain didn’t keep us from having a good time:)  We enjoyed yummy food, campfires, kids, games, stories, sandcastles, sand, and the company of good friends.  One thing that is not on my list is SLEEP.  Oh well, we can sleep later!  Thanks O’Bryant family for a fun weekend….maybe next time we can do a little more playing at the beach:)

Enjoy the pictures…..

Jocelyn’s Preschool

I continue to be thrilled by the progress Jocelyn is making in her preschool.  She continues to amaze me.  Last week Jocelyn’s class took a field trip to the pumpkin patch.  There she sits right in the middle of her class of two and three year olds.  Just like all the other kids, not smiling for the picture:)

Meet Mrs. Jones.  This is the fabulous lady who welcomed the idea of having Jocelyn join her class.  Jocelyn loves Mrs. Jones:)  One of my favorite things to do is peek into the classroom, if I arrive a few minutes early, to watch Mrs. Jones singing with the kids.  There sits Jocelyn right in the middle of all the kid,s following along with some of the words but mostly the gestures:)     IMG_5829

Jocelyn’s favorite little friend, Tia.  When I drop her off in the morning to always runs to Tia for a hug (sometimes Tia is interested).

Preschool Helper

Some things are meant to be. Meet Mrs. Feast, Jocelyn's preschool helper. She shadows Jocelyn at preschool to keep her on task and safe;) So sweet of her to work each Monday and Wednesday with my Sweet Jocelyn. I love picking up Jocelyn and hearing from Mrs. Feast how well she has done. I feel so blessed to have found such an amazing preschool that has a wonderful assistant there to work with Jocelyn. Thank you so very much for the work you do Mrs. Feast;) Oh, I forgot to mention that Jocelyn adores her!

“Finding Beauty in the Unexpected”

I know these women.  We share a common bond.  A bond we would have never dreamed would be ours.  In our early days together we were still grieving.  Our wounds were fresh.  We shared our stories of that day we found out.  What they said, who we told, how we responded.  We needed each other.  We needed to know that all those thoughts and emotions were normal.

There was another mama.  On the other side of the country. She wrote a beautiful, raw story about the birth of her daughter on her blog. I hope you will read it. ( http://www.kellehampton.com/2010/01/nella-cordelia-birth-story.html ) She shared our bond. We found comfort in her words and all started following the blog, watching her and and her sweet baby grow with us.jocelynbdayparty 037

Last night we got to meet her! She has since written a book, Bloom- finding beauty in the unexpected. We listened to her read from her book, listened to her answer questions, and had our books signed.  Another wonderful memory with some very special mamas! kellehampton1

In my book she wrote, “Look for the good…and you will find it!  Much love, Kelle Hampton”

What a lovely evening with some very lovely ladies:)

My little Pumpkin!

   Paige Marie- 6 Months

Today we went to the Pumpkin Patch and I took a zillion and one pictures (so did every other mom I saw there today). My plan was to post a bunch of pictures from the day but I am stuck on this one.  There is something about a baby with a perfect little round face bare piggies  sitting with pumpkins and straw that I love:)Just look at her.  She’s perfect.

Happy Fall!

Sisters

abbyjocelynbuddywalk

I am so thankful that these two have each other.  Just look at their faces, they say it all:) Abby is Jocelyn’s best teacher.  Jocelyn repeats words that Abby says, and follows her every move (good and bad).  It’s becoming more and more apparent how strong the bond is going to be between these two girls.

Little sister Paige is getting in on this action too.  She is enamored by both Abby and Jocelyn. 3 sisters is just perfect for this family:)  I sure do love my girls!

Paige is 6 Months!

Look who is 6 months old today!  Already!  She is a bright and active little girl.  She is a happy baby, as long as she has what she wants.  Don’t worry she knows how to get what she doesn’t have.  (that happens when you are #3)  A good scream will get someones attention or she’ll just army crawl where she wants to go (and she is FAST). She is eating rice cereal, oatmeal and also apple sauce.  She’s laughing and squealing and starting to babble.

It has been a joy to watch her develop.  It all comes so easily and naturally to her.  So many times when I am watching her I see Abby when she was a baby.

Pretty little Paige….WE LOVE YOU!

Halloween Cuteness!

IMG_5693

The second Tuesday of each month we meet up with a wonderful group of parents and kiddos.  The City of Temecula hosts our group and provides food and activities for the kids.  Pretty cool!  (I continue to be impressed by Temecula) Tonight was a Halloween gathering with games, coloring, face painting and candy.

Abby was Neil Armstrong (the girl is completely obsessed with all things space at the moment.  I hope it lasts and maybe the princess fascination takes a back seat for a while) And of course, Jocelyn was an elephant (her favorite thing these days)!
