Chris and I took a little trip this weekend. No kids, just us:) This was my first night without kids since Abby was born and I did it…and I can’t wait to do it again! We went to a beautiful wedding and the coast in Dana Point. Everything about this wedding was spectacular. I could go on and on…
Without children there was definitely some relaxing that happened. My husband did make the trip a little more humorous when 30 minutes before the wedding as he was getting ready he realized he definitely forgot his pants. Ummm well, what are you going to do? So he jumped in the car and drove to the nearest store….Tommy Bahama, where he found himself a VERY NICE (also expensive) pair of khakis to wear and slipped in next to me at the ceremony just as they pronounced them husband and wife. Nice one Chris:) We didn’t let this small (and expensive) hiccup ruin a good time. We ate, we visited, we danced and we all had a wonderful time!
At the wedding we were seated with two couples who had children with special needs. Coincidence…umm probably not…it was perfect! We shared stories, cell phone pictures, we joked that we were at the special needs table and I was encouraged. Encouraged to get out there with Jocelyn and get her involved. Involved in activities with typical children. It was just the push I needed to take her to the class that I had signed up for first thing Monday morning.
So we went, and I was excited and a little nervous. I knew it would be obvious that Jocelyn was behind the other children. But I also knew that this would be so good for Jocelyn (and me). As I waited for class to began some small talk with another mom. Name? How old? She asked if I had other children and how old. I told her about Abby and then asked her if she had other children. She replied, “No Sammy is my first. I am 32 and they say once you are 35 bad things can start happening. We want to have another soon.” (Becca just smiles and nods) Uhhhhhhhhh. Did she notice Jocelyn’s special beauty and and does she know that this “thing” is not bad? Oh well, the world has all kinds and Jocelyn will teach so many so much:) And by the way, 35 is still a few more years off…..
So class started and we had a blast. We played, played because we wanted to. There was no therapist telling us special exercises or techniques to make Jocelyn stronger. We climbed through obstacle courses, sang songs and watched a puppet show, just like all the other kids. It was perfect……….
(Jocelyn now stands when you say, “stand up Jocelyn”. It was super fun to stand and fall on the trampoline.)
It was a weekend that we both needed. This morning I am feeling rejuvenated from it all. I got this……..
Chris just texted me this picture with the caption. “It’s too hot to work lets go back.”
Just let me know when to pack my bags……..
